Calisthenics as a name originally comes from Greek words and a combination of two; „Kalos“ means „beauty“ and „Stenos“ translates as „strength“. Therefore, no doubt to say these Calisthenics facilities brings your body beauty and strength.

These outdoor sport facilities that increasing in number every day are also the cheapest way to do sport in fresh air. That is why some call calisthenics as „Street Workout“. And this is not only the cheapest way to do sport, but also one of the most effective ones to make your posture better. In 2017, the scientists of University of Palermo, Italy have made a research with the topic „The effects of a calisthenics training intervention on posture, strength and body composition“ and results of the experiments prove the effect of calisthenics to human body. In the study, 28 men divided two different groups observed by scientists during 8 weeks. First group practised calisthenics for 8 weeks and the second one continued to their own workout routine. At the end of 8 weeks, all 28 men evaluated under the topics of a body composition analysis, a handgrip test, press-up and pull-up tests and a postural assessment. The research results shows that how calisthenics stands one step forward than the normal workout routines. After eight weeks, the first group that practised calisthenics can do more pull-up and press-up than before; their posture improved and their fat mass lowered. But the second group with their own workout fitness routine had no improvement than before.

So, what sports exercises can be done in a calisthenics facility?

As mentioned above, calisthenics sports exercises mostly done with own body weight and gravity. Some calisthenics users or street workouters use some weight that bind their body but for beginners fundamentals are important. First of all, you had better to ask your doctor if you can do this outdoor sport. Some of calisthenics exercises may not be suitable for people with joint disorders or other diseases. Therefore, it would be logical to get a doctor’s opinion before starting. In the beginning, after warm up exercises, even if the calisthenics bars look tempting, you may start with practises such as squats, planks, push-ups and burpees etc. After those, wear your sport gloves and start pull-ups, chin-ups, parallel bar, dips and more…
